Meet Tantri & Family
Nestled in the lush mountains of Bali, Tantri and her family tend to their organic farm and farm stay - a haven where nature, community, and slow living come together in the most grounded way.
We asked Tantri to share a glimpse into her world, what inspires her, and the small joys that fill her days.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family
My name is Tantri Waworuntu. I run Temuku Pupuan Farm, a place my father started in the late 1980s, where we grow organic produce and share the experience of real, sustainable farming.
I come from a family deeply rooted in hospitality ; my grandfather founded Tandjung Sari in the early 1960s, one of the first boutique hotels in Sanur, and our family has run Café Batujimbar for about forty years now. Both the hotel and café have always been family places, filled with stories, friendships, and food that connects people. Growing up around them taught me the true meaning of hospitality ; not just serving guests, but welcoming them as part of our extended family. I’m proud to continue that legacy through the farm, bridging tradition and sustainability while keeping the warmth of genuine Balinese hospitality alive.
What inspire you most in your day to day life as a mother ?
What inspires me every day as a mother is seeing the world through my child’s eyes ; their curiosity, honesty, and wonder in even the simplest things. It reminds me to slow down and appreciate life’s small moments. Motherhood has also deepened my connection to nature.
Watching my kids play and explore the same land I grew up on fills me with gratitude. Seeing them connect with the soil, the trees, and the rhythms of the farm reminds me of how important it is to stay close to the earth. I want them to grow up understanding where their food comes from, to appreciate nature, and to live with kindness and respect for others. That connection ; to family, to the land, and to nature ; inspires me every single day.
Describe the perfect day in Bali with your tribe.
I know Bali is famous for its beautiful beaches, but I’ve always been more of a mountain girl ; that’s where I feel most grounded.
My perfect day with my tribe would be spent in the hills or forest, surrounded by trees and fresh air. We’d start the morning with a walk through nature, maybe end up at a clean natural spring where we could swim and just enjoy the quiet. Afterwards, we’d spread out a delicious picnic made from simple, fresh ingredients ; good food, laughter, and time to slow down together. For me, that balance of nature, family, and good food is what makes Bali truly special
How did temuku begin for your famiy?
Temuku began as a family farm that my father started in the late 1980s. When he moved to Yogyakarta in the early 2000s to start a permaculture institute, the farm continued to run quietly on its own for a while.
About eight years ago, my husband and I decided to take it over and breathe new life into it. We started small, learning and developing as we went. Over time, we transformed the farm from mainly supplying wholesale produce into a home delivery service, and eventually turned our family house into a small farmstay. It’s been a very organic journey ; growing step by step, guided by our love for the land and the desire to create something meaningful for our community.
What do you love most about the daily rhythm of farm life?
If I had to choose one thing, it would be how time seems to slow down on the farm. There’s something magical about that stillness, how all your senses start to awaken.
You notice the sound of the wind, the smell of the soil, the warmth of the sun. Everything feels alive and connected. It’s such a grounding feeling, one that reminds me to be present and grateful for the simplest things. That quiet rhythm of nature is what I love most about farm life.
