Meet Tash & Kalani
Welcome to your new chapter, Tash. And welcome to the world, little Kalani.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey to motherhood?
I’m Tash, and I run a wedding planning company here in Bali which is coming up to its 14th year. I’ve spent over 30 years living and working in Indonesia, travelling extensively and building a full and busy life.
Motherhood came later for me - I welcomed my son Kalani in January 2026. While I’m a little older to be a first-time mum, it actually feels like the perfect timing. I have no sense of missing out or wanting to be somewhere else. After doing and experiencing so much, I feel completely content being at home with him in our little bubble.
Sometimes I wish I had started earlier so I could have more children, but I know I wouldn’t have achieved what I have without following my path. Now Kalani has a calm, relaxed mama whose next adventure in life is simply celebrating him.
What has surprised you most about these first few weeks with Kalani?
How much this little human can eat - and how alert he is! I had read that newborns sleep most of the time, but Kalani seems curious about everything and loves being awake and looking around.
But the biggest surprise has been the intensity of love. The instinct to protect him is immediate and overwhelming. I honestly can’t stop looking at him - he’s like my favourite three-dimensional Netflix series, and every day feels like a new episode.
What does a perfect day with Kalani look like right now?
Slow mornings together - coffee for me, milk for him - followed by some time outside watching the leaves move in the trees. We love stroller walks along the beach, afternoon naps together, and quiet evenings with an early bedtime.
Of course, every day is a little different, but when the rhythm flows like that, we both go to sleep smiling. And yes, he’s already smiling too.
What strengths have you discovered in yourself through this journey?
I’ve discovered just how much the body and heart can give when it’s for your child. The level of exhaustion you can push through when it’s driven by love is incredible.
I’ve also learned to trust my intuition more than ever. Every time I’ve followed my gut with Kalani, it’s been right - and early on, that instinct even helped prevent him from becoming very sick. It’s given me a lot of confidence in listening to that inner voice.
What does support look like for you in this season?
I truly feel like one of the luckiest women when it comes to support.
My mum has been our rock since the day we came home from the hospital - making sure I’m eating, helping with Kalani so I can shower or rest, and really caring for her baby (me) so I can care for mine.
Friends have also been incredible - dropping by early to help, picking up groceries, and checking in daily just to see how we’re doing. I’ve also recently welcomed a wonderful nanny who supports during the day when needed.
They say it takes a village, and I feel so grateful for mine.
